Uruguayan Juan González is set to continue his rugby career in England. The 22-year-old has signed for the re-born Worcester Warriors and will join the team in October from Uruguay.
González had the honor of repressing his country at the Olympic Games. He was named on the roster for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. He scored tries at the Olympics against Fiji and France and he went over for a double against Japan. Uruguay finished 11th in Paris.
International honors continued for González after the Olympic Games. He was named on Uruguay’s roster for the November Internationals. Los Teros toured Europe facing Spain in Madrid, Japan in France and Romania in Bucharest.
González made his test debut against Spain. He was a replacement in the 33-24 defeat. He earned his first starting cap one week later against the Japanese. Uruguay gave Japan a fright in Chambéry, France; albeit, Los Teros were beaten 36-20.
It was third time lucky for Uruguay and Juan González in November 2024. González started at fullback in what was his first test victory as Uruguay were 23-21 winners over Romania at the Stadionul National Arcul de Triumf. González made a break in the lead-up to Gastón Mieres’ try.
2025 saw González heavily involved for Uruguay on the SVNS, the World Rugby Sevens Series. He was a regular for Uruguay in the recently completed season. It wrapped up with Uruguay looking ahead to the July Internationals and Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
Los Teros Head Coach Rodolfo Ambrosio will be able to have González back for international duty before he moves to England. The move to the Worcester Warriors will be González’ first experience abroad. The same is true of Baltazar Amaya. The starting fullback from Rugby World Cup 2023 is joining to Béziers from Uruguay next season.
The club is returning to professional rugby two and a half years after the club went into administration. The Worcester Warriors will be one of fourteen teams in the Championship next season. The RFU Championship is the second division in England.
