Yacare and Dogos Play Out Tense Battle in Asunción

Yacare and Los Dogos played out a tense battle in Asunción, Paraguay on Saturday. The tension often boiled over and there were three second half yellow cards and a red card. Los Dogos were down to 13 men at one point but managed to hold on for a 24-19 away victory.

MATCH NOTES
  • Both teams scored two tries each. A crucial factor in the final score was that Juan Bautista Baronio was more accurate with his goal-kicking than was Valentino DiCapua.
  • DiCapua opened the scoring with a penalty. Mateo Sánchez responded with the game’s opening try. It featured a fortunate bounce favoring Los Dogos.
  • A rampaging Ramiro Parada Heit from inside his own half saw three Dogos defenders ran over. Recycles and numbers resulted in a try to Ramiro Amarilla. Agustín Segura was among those thrust aside by Parada Heit. Segura led the field injured.
  • A try to Faustino Sánchez Valarolo early in the second-half made it 18-11 to Los Dogos. Dicapua struck a penalty to make it 18-14 only for Barono to land two for a 24-14 scoreline. It reminded as such until the closing minutes.
  • Juan Cruz Strada produced an assist try for Felipe Puertas in the 74the minute.
  • Los Dogos were unable to capitalize on on a late try-scoring opportunity. A kick from Baronio rebounded off the posts and nearly resulted in a score.
  • The result means Los Dogos overtake Yacare in the standings. Los Dogos are now 4th and Yacare 5th.
