Jaguares XV shut out American Raptors in Glendale

Los Jaguares XV shut out the American Raptors in Glendale. The opening match of the Challenge Cup of the Americas was all about the Argentines. The 69-0 win saw no points conceded and eleven tries scored.

The Argentine side featured players from SLAR 2022. There were regulars from Los Jaguares XV in addition to players who were involved for the other Semi Finalists – Cafeteros Pro, Peñarol and Selknam.

It was the Jaguares XV captain, Tomás Cubilla who opened the scoring. He touched down in the opening minute of play. It was slow going for the remainder of the opening quarter as no points were scored.

Los Jaguares XV ran in four tries in the second quarter. They included a double to Juan Pablo Castro, a player recently added to the Argentina XV’s roster for the tour to Georgia and Portugal in July. Juan Ignacio Landó, Ignacio Mendy, Nahuel Milán also all scored second quarter tries.

The match result was confirmed before half-time. The teams left for the changing rooms with the scoreline reading 38-0. The second-half did not see a response from the American Raptors; instead, further tires got Los Jaguares XV up to a powerful final result of 69-0.

Mendy added a second half try to go with his first. There were also scores by Eliseo Morales, Franco Molina, Lautaro Bazán Vélez, and Iñaki Delguy. Players from the replacements had the opportunity for gamete too. Julián Hernández had a quick contribution with two conversions.

The teams will play again in seven days time. Los Jaguares XV will take on UBCOB Ravens while the American Raptors will face SLAR 2022 champions Peñarol. Both matches will also be at today’s venue of Infinity Park in Glendale, Colorado.
