The 2017-18 HSBC Sevens Series kicks off this weekend in Dubai with the women starting a day earlier than the men. Canada finished 3rd overall on last year’s circuit, just two points behind Olympic Champions Australia. They’ll be looking to start their season on a high with the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco looming at the circuit’s conclusion.
Head coach John Tait will send a strong core to Dubai including World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year nominee Ghislaine Landry and Olympic captain Jen Kish. Britt Benn and Kayla Moleschi return, as do promising youngsters Breanne Nicholas and Caroline Crossley.
Missing due to injury are Megan Lukan, Bianca Farella, Sara Kaljuvee, and Charity Williams. To fill the gaps there are two new caps named in Barrie, Ontario, native Emma Chown and Tausani Levale, an 18-year-old with Samoan ancestry who hails from Ahousaht on Flores Island.
Canada have been drawn in Pool C along with Spain, Ireland, and Fiji.
