Nicaragua Fall to Guatemala in Historic First Test Match

The Americas rugby community proudly welcomed its newest test match playing member today. For the first time ever Nicaragua played a capped rugby international, taking-on Guatemala in round one of the South American C Championship.

It was very much a baptism of fire for Nicaragua. Their opponents were none other than Los Jaguares, the strongest team in Central America. Guatemala’s credentials include winning the past two South American C Championships.

Today’s result over Nicaragua was a solid start from Guatemala. It was very much the opening performance the team was seeking. With matches against Panama and Costa Rica to follow Los Jaguares are well placed to defend their South American C title.

Guatemala controlled the game throughout. So much so that Los Jaguares held a 31-0 half time lead. They went on to convert it into a 57-19 victory.

Today’s match took place at the Liceo Franco Costarricense in San José, Costa Rica. The venue is playing host to all matches in the the 2017 South American C Championship.

Action will continue on Wednesday. On the second match-day of the tournament Guatemala face Panama while Nicaragua are to be up against Costa Rica. The tournament is structured with the expectation that Guatemala and Costa Rica’s match on Saturday September 02 will determine the 2017 champions.
