Norton passes Gómez Cora on All-Time Scoring List

England winger Dan Norton has passed Argentine legend and current Pumas 7s coach Santiago Gómez Cora for second spot on the all-time try scoring list of the HSBC Sevens Series. Norton grabbed two tries in the match against Japan on Day One in Sydney to skip past Gómez Cora’s total of 230. Norton added one more against South Africa to end the day with 232 tries, six behind leader Collins Injera of Kenya. Injera achieved his record total in May of 2016.

From the current Top 10, five are still active, though the status of Kenyan brother Injera and Humphrey Kayange is in question after the duo were dropped from the squad following a disagreement with Kenyan Rugby Union officials in the off-season. South African speedster Seabelo Senatla and New Zealand veteran Tim Mikkelson are neck-and-neck for the 5th and 6th spots, with Senatla just edging past Mikkelson by scoring six times on Day One in Sydney.

The USA’s own Zack Test, currently in the Eagles squad for the Americas Rugby Championship, is not far behind in 12th spot with 143 career touchdowns. Canada’s all-time leading try scorer is recently retired Sean Duke, in 18th spot with 124.
