Leguizamón: Australia are Unpredictable

Having missed out on facing New Zealand last weekend Juan Manuel Leguizamón is fit again and ready. The veteran flanker from Santiago del Estero is expected to return to the starting lineup to face Australia in Perth on Saturday.

With 70 caps Leguizamón has more tests to his name than all other members of Daniel Hourcade’s roster. He is the workhorse veteran in a back-row that contains young blood in the form of Facundo Isa and Pablo Matera.

Against Australia Leguizamón is expected to join Isa and Matera. This will see Javier Ortega Desio losing his place but it is not bad news for Ortega Desio at all. Instead he is expected to be joining Matías Alemanno to form a new second-row combination.

Talking to the UAR in Perth, Leguizamón addressed the upcoming challenge.

In such an important game nerves and anxiety are always present, but we must be calm and take advantage of our days to prepare in the best way. In front of us we will have a top-level opponent and if we don’t keep calm, we may play against ourselves.

From our last match we learned that we must manage time better. We could not maintain the intensity throughout the game and that led to New Zealand scoring so many points in the end. We put in a great effort against the All Blacks, but against this type of team that alone is not enough.”

Finally, the flanker spoke about Argentina’s next opponent.

Australia is a very unpredictable opponent. Although some may think that the team is not at its best, it is a team that defends perfection and so it proved at the World Cup. In addition, attacks always have different variations which we study very well. We cannot relax because otherwise we will suffer.”
