Trainor Signs Contract to play in France

Star Canadian rugby 7’s player Conor Trainor is on his way to France. The newly promoted Pro d2 side, Vannes have signed the Vancouver flier on a one-year contract.

Having debuted for Canada’s men’s rugby 7’s team in 2010 he is now a veteran. During his time on the international circuit he has played more than 200 matches for a return of some 50 tries.

His performances also transferred over the the senior men’s side. He debuted for Canada against Russia in 2011 and worked his way onto his country’s World Cup roster. He played all four matches in the New Zealand hosted World Cup, bagging a double against the All Blacks.

He also traveled to the U.K in 2015 to play in a second Rugby World Cup. Having scored against Fiji in a warm-up match he went on to feature off the bench in all four matches. Canada’s loss against Romania in Leicester is his most recent appearance at test level.

In an interview with Patrick Johnson, Trainor explained that “after playing sevens for so long and missing out on the Olympics I wanted to try something completely new. Coming to France was as much about the culture and learning French as it was about improving my rugby.”

Vannes is a small town that I’ve been to before with Canada in 2014. They just got promoted and are very serious about improving their position and that underdog status is something I’m very comfortable with.”

In moving to Vannes, Trainor will join four others from the Americas. Martín Garcia Veiga and Bautista Guemes have also both recently signed. Ramiro Pacheco and Javier Lagioiosa have been at the club since  2013 and 2011 respectively.
