Mexico to Appear in Third Consecutive South American u18’s

For the third consecutive year Mexico is to compete in the Sudamérica Rugby under 18’s. Despite being a member union of Rugby Americas North the strong relationship with fellow Spanish-speaking unions from Sudamérica Rugby will see Las Serpientes again afforded the opportunity of competing in South American under 18 competition.

Following on from the 2015 competition being staged in Colombia the 2016 edition of the competition will take place in Northern Peru. Set to compete are Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.

Sudamérica Rugby President Marcelo Rodríguez explained “as members of Americas Rugby, together with Rugby Americas North we are in search of the formula that enables interaction between our regional association and that of North America.”

Rodríguez was present in Miami, Florida to invite Rugby Americas North to participate in its General Annual Assembly. “We would like to improve our competitions and find ways to compete more within our regions, in line with the definition of Americas Rugby and with World Rugby.”

Already in existence is the Americas Rugby Championship. The Six Nations of the Americas brings together the Argentina XV, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Uruguay and the USA. Future competitions are presently being sought to further integrate the region.
