Romania to play USA, Canada and Uruguay in November

Romania is to play USA, Canada and Uruguay in November, the FRR confirmed this morning. All three internationals will take place at the Arc de Triomphe, in Bucharest.

The three matches will all be played on Saturdays. First up for Romania will be the USA on November 12.   In what is to be the eighth test match between the countries the Eagles will be looking to expand on their outstanding record against the Oaks.

Of the previous internationals the USA has a record of six wins and one loss. That one loss was in Dublin, Ireland during Rugby World Cup 1999. The 27-25 result saw Romania finish above the Eagles. The two most recent matches were during the last World Cup cycle. The Eagles won the fixtures by scoreline of 34-3 in 2012 and 27-17 in 2014, doing so in Bucharest.

On November 19 Romania will host Canada. The North Americans will be out for revenge after having bombed a 15-0  lead only to lose last time around. That fixture was during Rugby World Cup 2015. It saw the Oaks completing the biggest comeback in tournament history.

The 2015 fixture was the sixth between the sides and gave Romania a fourth consecutive win. Canada won the first two matches, both of which were at Rugby World Cups. In 1991 and 1995 the Maple Leafs won 19-11 and 34-3 in France and South Africa respectively.

Romania’s home series will come to a close against Los Teros on November 26. In what is to be the eighth meeting between the teams the Oaks will be looking to continue their unbeaten record. The Romanian’s recently gave Uruguay a lesson in the Nations Cup and the Eastern Europeans have won the past four matches by 18 or more points.

The one time that Uruguay avoided defeat was in 2010. In what was the only home international for Los Teros, the match was a 21-21 draw.

Of additional interest is the Rugby World Rankings. Currently Romania is ranked 16th in the world. The sides ranked 17th, 18th and 19th are the USA, Canada and Uruguay in that order.
