Bernard Charreyre Appointed New Chile Head Coach

Bernard Charreyre has been unveiled as the new Head Coach of Chile. The Frenchman will officially take over Los Cóndores next Monday.

Charreyre arrives with vast experience behind him. He comes from the rugby stronghold of Perpignan and has vast playing and coaching history.

Following Romania’s disastrous 134-0 loss against England in November 2001 Charreyre took over. In 2002 he coached Romania to the European Nations Cup (ENC) title and helped the country qualify for Rugby World Cup 2003.

In the Australian hosted tournament he coached the Oaks to a 37-7 win over Namibia. The remaining results were not so positive but no repeat of the scoreline at Twickenham eventuated. Instead Romania fell 90-8 against Australia, 50-3 against Argentina and 45-17 against Romania. Worth pointing out is the unfriendly schedule that Romania had, while Australia and Ireland did not.

In his homeland of France Charreyre has been far more than a rugby coach. He is a former Technical Adviser to the FFR and brings with him an extensive background in training rugby coaches. As such his role with FERUCHI will be not only to coach the national men’s team but to also elevate the level of the country’s coaches.
