Los Tucanes win Norte Sevens SAR

Colombia’s national men’s Rugby Sevens team celebrated winning at home this past weekend. An undefeated campaign gave Los Tucanes the Norte Sevens SAR title.

Played at home in Guarne, Antioquia the competition served as qualification for the 2017 Viña del Mar 7’s. Chile’s biggest event of the year will thereby include the north-western South Americans.

Colombia’s path to the final was impressive. Los Tucanes enjoyed two big wins in pool play. Victories by scoreline of 60-0 and 43-0 against Costa Rica and Guatemala sent a warning to all others in the competition.

At the Quarter Finals stage Los Tucanes were just as strong. They repeated a 60-0 win, this time over Panama. The perfect defensive record was ended in the Semi Final though Colombia was still too strong for Paraguay, winning 28-5. The title was secured with a 35-5 win over Peru in the final.

Final Standings
1 Colombia
2 Peru
3 Paraguay
4 Ecuador
5 Venezuela
6 Guatemala
7 Costa Rica
8 Panama
9 El Salvador
