Uruguay down Brazil to move towards U19 title

Los Teritos edged towards winning the 2015 South American Under 19 Championship by defeating Brazil 27-12 in the second round. Played at the home of Paraguayan rugby, the Estadio Héroes de Curupayty in Asunción, the Uruguayans led throughout and outscored Brazil by five tries to two.

Fullback Bautista Mascia opened the scoring with a 3rd minute try which fly half Lucas Durán converted. Winger Rafael Olaso and hooker Juan Chamyan also both scored in the opening half. Felipe Rosa scored for Brazil in a half in which goalkicking was very ordinary as Durán was unable to add further points.

The 17-5 half time lead was quickly expanded when Uruguayan center Guillermo Williamson crossed in the 44th minute. The conversion was, again, off target and Martín Fitipaldo’s 58th minute try was also unconverted. Brazil completed the scoring with replacement Alexandre Figueiredo crossing for a try converted by Leonardo Ceccarelli.

The third and final round will be played on Saturday.
