MacGinty magic leads Sale past Newcastle

AJ MacGinty produced another outstanding performance for Sale Sharks on Friday evening as they defeated Newcastle Falcons 31-16 at AJ Bell Stadium. The US Eagles flyhalf used a bit of magic to set up Springboks lock Lood de Jager for what will go down as one of the tries of the year.

With MacGinty and halfback partner Faf de Klerk – another World Cup champion – pulling the strings, Sale were in complete control as they led 18-6 at halftime. MacGinty himself scored 11 points with the boot to take his total to 121 on the season. Only Marcus Smith of Harlequins has more in the Premiership.

Through 12 rounds of the 2020-21 season Sale are in 4th spot with 36 points, two less than 3rd place Quins. Bristol are clear at the top of the table with 46 points. Eagles teammate Greg Peterson featured for Newcastle on Friday. Falcons are in 7th spot with 29 points.
