Austin signs ex-Waratahs flyhalf Mack Mason

The Austin Gilgronis have announced the signing of former Waratahs flyhalf Mack Mason for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. A starter for the Australia u20s in 2016, he most recently turned out for the NSW Country Eagles in the 2019 National Rugby Championship.

Mason enjoyed a rapid rise following his age-grade success which included an invitation to a Wallabies training camp in 2017. After serving as understudy to Bernard Foley at the Waratahs, however, he was unceremoniously discarded to the surprise of many prior to the 2020 campaign.

With his 25th birthday approaching in January, Mason now has an opportunity to revitalise his career under new Austin coaches Sam Harris and Mark Gerrard. He will face stiff competition for the No10 shirt, however, with World Cup selects Will Magie and Kurt Morath already under contract.
