Duncan van Schalkwyk signs long-term deal with ATL

Duncan van Schalkwyk has pledged his long-term future to Rugby ATL. The 24-year-old has signed a three-year contract extension that ties him to Atlanta through the end of the 2023 Major League Rugby season.

Originally from Pretoria, South Africa, van Schalkwyk moved to North Carolina in 2008. Both he and older brother Zander are graduates of the Life University program that provided numerous players for ATL in their inaugural campaign.

After featuring at both halfback positions during his collegiate career, the younger van Schalkwyk focused on scrumhalf in 2020. He started all five games for ATL and played more than 90% of all possible minutes, scoring 8 points in the season opener against the Utah Warriors.

van Schalkwyk represented the Junior All-Americans at the 2016 World Rugby u20 Trophy and was named a Collegiate All-American in each of 2017, 2018, and 2019. ‘DvS’ was included in the senior Eagles training squad ahead of the 2019 Americas Rugby Championship but remains uncapped.
