Ruben de Haas extends Cheetahs contract

US Eagles scrumhalf Ruben de Haas will stay with the Free State Cheetahs for another year. The 21-year-old has signed a contract extension that will keep him in Bloemfontein through to October 2021.

Originally from George, South Africa, de Haas moved to Arkansas at the age of 10 and represented the USA at age grade level before making his test debut as a 19-year-old against Chile in February 2018. He played in all four of the USA’s games at Rugby World Cup 2019, starting against Argentina and Tonga to bring his total to 17 caps.

de Haas joined the Cheetahs on an academy deal in 2017 and signed his first senior contract in 2018. He started six games during the 2019 SuperSport Challenge. Free State also field senior sides in both the Currie Cup and Guinness Pro 14.
