Tranquez Among Corinthians’ 16 New Signings

25-year-old Lucas Tranquez is among Corinthians’ 16 new signings unveiled today. He has been playing test rugby for Brazil since 2013 and has 30 test starts in his 36 test cap appearances. His signature for Corinthians is notable for the team which debuts next month in the new Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) competition.

Tranquez has played in a number of positions, although wing is where he has predominantly featured for Os Tupis. On occasion he has played at fly half, the position held down by Josh Reeves who previously played for the Utah Warriors in Major League Rugby. Also covering picot is an undeniable veteran, Moisés Duque. Now aged 32, Duque has 55 caps for Brazil and previously played in France.

Of the remaining players confirmed today three more are backs. They are scrum-half Laurent Bourda-Couhet and centers Gabriel Quirino, Vicent Quirino, and Daniel Sancery. They represent a range of ages, signifying investment in the future while also ensuring that the team can be strong in 2020.

Of the new Corinthians forwards Yan Rosetti and youngster Leonardo de Souza are the hookers named today. Rosetti brings a wealth of experience as a player with plenty of caps to his name including as Brazil’s test captain. Props Pedro Bengaló and Henrique Ribeiro are also confirmed.

Four back-rowers were unveiled. They are South Africa’s Brazilian eligible Devon Müller, u20 starters Rafael Dos Santos and Adrio de Melo, and regular Tupis flanker Matheus Cláudio. Rounding out the arrivals are second-rowers Kauã Guimarães and Luiz Vieira.
