Jamaica Defeat Gibraltar in a Thriller

International competition is underway for 2020. In the first match of the year Jamaica defeated Gibraltar in a thriller, winning 17-15 at Europa Point on Saturday afternoon.

The home side, Gibraltar, started strongly. Fly half, Benn Morris landed a 15th minute penalty to open the scoring. Five minutes later he converted the games opening try which was scored by second-rower Robert Brown.

Trailing 10-0 after a quarter of play, the Caribbean country hit back with two tries. Touching down in the 30th and 38th minutes, the Crocs went into half-time with a 14-10 advantage.

In the second half Gibraltar hit back early. Crossing for their second try was fullback Aerton Griffin. The score was unconverted, though it gave Gibraltar a one point lead after 42 minutes.

The remaining score of the match came eight minutes later with Jamaica slotting a penalty to restore their lead, now at 17-15.

For the remaining 30 minutes of play the match was there for the taking. Ultimately, the Crocs came out on top, to see the team from the Americas defeating the Europeans.

Officially the match was Gibraltar u23s vs Jamaica u23s, though with this being five years above the adult player age, and three above u20s it ought to be classified as a fully capped international test match.
