Samoa’s Ed Fidow Faces Suspension

Samoa’s Ed Fidow faces possible suspension after having received two yellow cards against Scotland in today’s RWC 2019 match. The left winger was yellow carded for two offenses from which Scotland was awarded penalty tries.

The second of Fidow’s offenses was a no-arms tackle in which he let with his knee to slam in to the side of Scotland’s Sean Maitland. Such offenses are common to carry with them red cards. For Fidow it was a second yellow card which equates to a red card.

The two yellow cards happened to be his third of the tournament. He was yellow carded in the opening match against Russia, also for foul play. Two of his teammates were also yellow carded in the game with both subsequently being cited and suspended, ending their RWC campaigns.

Fidow is to attend a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday in Tokyo. He will do so for a panel containing Wang Shao Ing (Singapore lawyer and former international player);  with former international player Olly Kohn (Wales); and former international referee Jose Luis Rolandi (Argentina).
