Wenglewski heads to Japan as Ainu’u ruled out

David Ainu’u will play no further part at the Rugby World Cup. The 19-year-old prop’s tournament lasted just two minutes before he was forced off against England with a ankle injury. He will be replaced in the Eagles squad by Rugby ATL’s Chance Wenglewski.

It’s a like-for-like change with Wenglewski coming in as a loosehead specialist. Olive Kilifi was on the bench and played the rest of the game against England, while Eric Fry was a surprise omission from the match day squad. Wenglewski has six test caps most recently during the Pacific Nations Cup.

There are two other injury concerns for the USA ahead of the France came on Thursday. Will Hooley suffered a concussion late in the game and is currently subject to return-to-play protocol. Paul Lasike injured an ankle with his availability in doubt for the match against Les Bleus.
