South Africa bring in du Toit for Nyakane

South Africa have summoned Thomas du Toit to join their Rugby World Cup squad after it was confirmed that prop Trevor Nyakane would play no further part in the tournament. The latter tore his right calf after coming on as a substitute against New Zealand on Saturday.

du Toit is a like-for-like replacement for Nyakane in that he plays both sides of the scrum. The 24-year-old was one of the last players released from the squad prior to the final squad selection. Nyakane had been covering tighthead prop but the backup role is now expected to go to Vincent Koch.

The Springboks were defeated 23-13 by the All Blacks. Their next match is against continental rivals Namibia on Saturday. They will play Italy the following Friday before wrapping up the pool stage against Canada on Tuesday, October 8.
