NOLA sign former Dragons fullback Carl Meyer

After confirming a number of re-signings, the NOLA Gold have announced their first new name for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. Former Dragons starter Carl Meyer has signed a three-year deal that will see him sticking with New Orleans through the 2022 MLR campaign.

The 28-year-old joins from Welsh Premiership club Ebbw Vale, where he spent the 2018-19 campaign after a four-year stay in the Guinness Pro Championship. While used primarily as a fullback with the Dragons, Meyer played much of this past season in the midfield and will be an option at either spot for the Gold.

Originally from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Meyer was snapped up by the Dragons in early 2015 after impressing with the Steelmen in the top Welsh division. At 6’3″ (1.90m) and 235lbs (107kg) he is an imposing figure and is known for his booming right boot both out of hand and as a long-range option off the kicking tee.
