Argentina XV outmuscle Uruguay in Buenos Aires

The Argentina XV outmuscled Uruguay in Buenos Aires, winning the third round ARC match 35-10 this afternoon. The result keeps alive the Grand Slam for the Argentina XV who have remaining matches against Canada and Chile.

With a strong first half performance the home side found themselves leading 28-10 at half time. Captain Lautaro Bávaro led by example as he ran in two tries and was busy as part of a dominant maul.

The Argentina XV took no time to begin their scoring. In the second minute flanker Francisco Gorrissen barged his way over. It would be immediately followed by a second try with Bavaro scoring his first of the match.

Well behind in the opening quarter, Los Teros hit back in the 20th minute. Scoring their only try of the match was Tomás Inciarte. It was converted by winger Federico Favaro who also added a first half penalty in Uruguay’s other score of the match.

At the other end of the field the Argentina XV found their way over for two further opening half tries. Bavaro crossed for the second time while the outstanding winger Julián Dominguez continued his strong campaign which sees him potentially closing in on an opportunity with Los Jaguares.

Leading 28-10 at half-time the second half lacked the fizzle of the first. Uruguay played well to deny the Argentina XV with the same scoring opportunities that they had had in the first half. With Carlos Repetto yellow carded Los Teros would close in on a try scoring opportunity but the Argentina XV defense held firm on the try line.

With the second half nearing its conclusion replacement eightman Nicolás Sbrocco scored on a pushover try. Martín Elías would add the extras in the only other score of the second half.

The Argentina XV will travel north to Canada to face the Maple Leafs in Langford, BC next weekend. They will then return to South America to face Chile in the final round. Uruguay have a similar final two rounds with a trip to Seattle to face the USA next round followed by a home match against Brazil in the final round.
