Colombia to Host Argentina For the First Time in 2019

Colombia are to host Argentina for the first time in 2019. The countries will play in Medellín as part of the second edition of the Sudamérica 6 Naciones A.

Colombia’s home game is to be against the Argentina XV, the national ‘A’ side of South America’s rugby powerhouse country. Colombia’s test side, Los Tucanes, are to also play host to Paraguay in the tournament and face Uruguay in an away fixture.

Confirmation came from David Jaramillo, Colombia’s national men’s Head Coach. In a video interview with Colombian site Minute30, Jaramillo noted that 2019 will be a breakthrough for Colombia with the dream come true of playing against Argentina and doing so at home.

Jaramillo also confirmed the match dates. Colombia will play host to the Argentina XV on May 11 and then receive Paraguay on May 18. Both matches are to be played in Medellín.

In the 2018 Sudamérica 6 Naciones A Colombia played at home against the Uruguay XV in Medellín before facing Paraguay and Brazil on the road. The 2019 match against the Argentina XV will officially begin international rugby competition between the two highest populated Spanish-Speaking countries south of Mexico.

Also be played in Colombia in 2019 will be the Americas Rugby Challenge (ARCh). The inaugural competition took place earlier this year in Medellín with Colombia claiming a first ever win over Paraguay and also defeating Guyana, and Mexico. Los Tucanes’ unbeaten campaign saw them crowned champions.

The participants for the 2019 ARCh have not yet been confirmed. It is to again see two Sudamérica Rugby countries and two Rugby Americas North (RAN) countries. Beginning in 2019 the participants will be those who from RAN who qualify first and second in RAN qualification.
