Glendale Raptors secure flanker Dwayne Pienaar

The Glendale Raptors have signed South African flanker Dwayne Pienaar for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. A specialist openside, the 23-year-old suited up for Glendale in the exhibition match against the Americas Selects in October, scoring a try as a replacement.

Pienaar joins from Johannesburg club Roodepoort, where he earned Player of the Year honors before heading stateside to play for the Kansas City Blues. He played age grade rugby for the Golden Lions in the Currie Cup u21 competition, signing his first professional contract at the age of 18.

It’s the third loose forward signing for Glendale in the off-season, following USA internationals Malon Al-Jiboori and Hanco Germishuys. All-American flanker Connor Cook has returned from the 2018 season with three collegiate standouts – Jonny Layne, Jason Damm, and Tom Kacor – also trialing with the club during their fall schedule.
