Belize will play their first ever test match on Sunday, playing host to Guatemala. The neighboring Central American countries will go to battle as a special attraction on a day also featuring the national champion finals.
Sunday’s test match will see the debut of the Belize Macaws. The parrots are the official name of the test side with them up against Guatemala’s national men’s team, Los Jaguares.
Coached by Brendan Meany and Roberto Vasquez the Belize Macaws were formed in October 2018. The national team draws players from four clubs – Belize City’s King’s Park Scorpions, Orange Walk Black Mambas, San Ignacio’s Cayo Baymen, and San Pedros Sharks.
The match is to be played at MJSC on Princess Margaet Drive in Belize City. Kick-off is scheduled for 1pm on Sunday November 25. The national Anthems are to be performed by Chris Saldano.
The fixture sees Guatemala returning to the test arena following the 2018 Sudamérica 4 Naciones B competition. Guatemala defeated Costa Rica 18-12 but fell to a 34-0 defeat against Peru in the tournament in September and October.
