Herrera Back From France for Argentina

Ramiro Herrera is back from France for Argentina. He is one of 37 players named by Mario Ledesma to begin training in Buenos Aires tomorrow. Los Pumas will play at home against New Zealand (September 29) and Australia (October 06) in the remaining Rugby Championship fixtures.

Herrera is the fourth player based in Europe to be selected for the Rugby Championship. He follows Juan Figallo (Saracens), Facundo Bosch (Agen), and Gastón Cortés (Leicester Tigers). Of note is that all four players are front-rowers.

The inclusion of Figallo against South Africa saw Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro staring at Loose Head. Then in Oceania Tetaz Chaparro moved to Tight Head with Córtes acting as his replacement against New Zealand  before reverting to Loose Head and having Santiago Medrano start at Tight Head.

In addition to Herrera Joaquín Díaz Bonilla (fly half), Santiago Álvarez Fourcade (center), Matías Osadczuk (wing), Rodrigo Bruni (no 8), Lucas Paulos (second-row), and Enrique Pieretto (Tight Head) have been called-up.

Sebastián Cancelliere (wing), and Leonardo Senatore (no 8) return from injury to the roster. Also named are Tomás Lezana (flanker), and Matías Orlando (center) who both toured Oceania but were not deemed fit for the second match.

Herrera boosts not only the Tight Head but prop options in general. In total there are six props in the roster to face the All Blacks and Wallabies in Buenos Aires and Salta – Santiago García Botta, Ramiro Herrera, Santiago Medrano, Enrique Pieretto, Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, and Juan Pablo Zeiss.
