Colombia run riot over Guyana

Colombia ran riot over Guyana today, winning 71-7. With Paraguay defeating Mexico earlier on in the day Sudamérica Rugby made it two wins from as many matches over Americas Rugby North opposition in the Americas Rugby Challenge. The competition continues on Wednesday.

Los Tucanes controlled the match throughout, their head was never under threat. The opening try came in quick time. Crossing was Neider García to give Los Tucanes an immediate advantage. The attempted conversion was off the mark though José Manuel Diosa made up for it minutes later by slotting a penalty. He followed it up by scoring a try of his own and this time landing the conversion.

García scored next, touching down for his second try. Diosa again converted and shortly thereafter scored his second try of the match. The inside back would complete his hat-trick before half time and there would also be tries to captain Sebastián Mejía and Brayan Campiño before half time.

The result of the game was determined before half time. Colombia were 42-0 up at the break and when the game resumed Los Tucanes were in no mood of changing their play. Six minutes into the second half saw Andrés Álvarez scoring. Another try from him 12 minutes later saw Los Tucanes leading the Green Machine by 52-0.

Guyana had been on the back foot throughout the opening half in addition to the game’s third quarter. In the final quarter the Green Machine would score first, opening their account with a converted try to Joseph Rahaman. Colombia would respond by scoring two further tries. Brayhan Pérez crossed with Emmanuel Bedoya converting. With it Colombia finished with a 71-0 victory over Guyana.
