CAC Games – Day One Results

Day One of Rugby 7’s at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games took place today in Barranquilla, Colombia. Both Men’s and Women’s teams from the region competed with them returning again on Thursday to compete for Gold Medals.

The Men’s competition contains eight competing countries while the women’s has six. Competing in the Women’s competition is Colombia, French Guyana, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, and Venezuela. The Men’s competition consists of Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, and Venezuela.

On Day One Colombia’s Women’s team, Las Tucanes, won all three of their matches. They came out on top against Jamaica, Guatemala, and Mexico. Also impressing were French Guyana, and Venezuela, the later also going undefeated today in Barranquilla.

In the Men’s competition Colombia defeated both Mexico and Costa Rica but fell to a 14-12 upset defeat against Guyana. The Guyanese had earlier lost 14-10 against Mexico after defeating Costa Rica in their opening match.

Venezuela won two of their three matches, doing so against Guatemala and Jamaica. Their one defeat was against Trinidad & Tobago. The Calypso Warriors had a dream opening day by going undefeated against Venezuela, Jamaica, and Guatemala.

Both the Women’s and Men’s competitions will continue and conclude on Thursday. A range of possibilities remain for who will win the Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
