Seymour Starts in Six Nations Opener

Tommy Seymour has been named to start for Scotland in the Six Nations opener. Scotland play away to Wales in Cardiff on Saturday in the first of two matches for the day. The second fixture sees France hosting Ireland in Paris. England face Italy in Rome on Sunday.

Born in Nashville, Tennesse Seymour played u19’s for Ireland and then senior level for Ulster before moving to the Glasgow Warriors and being capped by Scotland. He qualifies for Scotland based on his mother being born in Glasgow.

Aged 29, Seymour has made 39 appearances for Scotland thus far. He earned his test debut against South Africa in 2013 and has been a mainstay ever since. He has started in all of his test match appearances for Scotland.

In 2017 he was selected for the British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand. Two years earlier he was a part of Scotland’s Rugby World Cup campaign. The northern Europeans reached the Quarter Finals, losing to finalists Australia. In the pool stage they faced Japan, Samoa, South Africa and the USA. Seymour missed the Eagles match but played in the others.

On Saturday he joins Stuart Hogg and Byron McGuigan in the back-three. John Barclay captains the team from flanker.
