The second and final leg of the Sudamerica Sevens series takes place at Viña del Mar on the Pacific coast of Chile this weekend. All 12 teams who participated at Punta del Este will be returning with two sports in the Rugby World Cup Sevens up for grabs between five of the South American sides.
Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Brazil are the teams competing for a shot at San Francisco. The Cóndores are in pole position following the first leg with Uruguay odds-on for the second spot though Brazil can still make up the spread.
19 points – Chile
15 points – Uruguay
10 points – Brazil
5 points – Colombia
1 point – Paraguay
It won’t be easy for any side with Brazil drawn in Group A along with Paraguay, Punta del Este champions South Africa, and invitational side Ireland. Group B sees Chile paired with Germany, Argentina, and Canada. France head up Group C with Uruguay, Colombia, and the USA the others.
Meanwhile some of the teams have announced changes to their rosters. Hosts Chile have replaced Juan Pablo Larenas with Francisco Metuaze, and there are two alterations to Uruguay’s squad. Santiago Hernández and Ignacio García drop out, replaced by Santiago Civetta and Federico Favaro.
Argentina have made four changes to a group that was already set to be altered from Punta del Este. Renzo Barbier, José Barros Sosa, Lucas Busdrago, and Maxime Provenzano will not make the trip to Chile. Traveling in their place will be Tomás Passaro, Matías Sauze, Juan Rosas Paz, and Tomás Meyrelles.
