Ben Tarr signs for NOLA Gold

US Eagles prop Ben Tarr has signed with the New Orleans Gold for the 2018 Major League Rugby season. The former Denver Stampede starter in PRO Rugby moves from another club set to take part in the new competition next year, the Glendale Raptors.

The 23-year-old Indianapolis attended the Southport School in Queensland, Australia, before returning to the USA to play for the Junior All-Americans at the 2014 IRB Junior World Championship. He was quickly called up to the USA Select XV roster for the 2014 Americas Rugby Championship, and subsequently made his test debut against Romania just a month later.

A knee injury ruled Tarr out of Rugby World Cup 2015 contention but he returned to the Eagles squad in June 2016 and has since won 11 test caps, three of them starts. His most recent international appearance was against Canada in the World Cup Qualifiers against Canada on July 1.

Tarr is comfortable on both sides of the scrum but has played the majority of his representative rugby at tighthead prop, a position he is likely to fill for the Gold. He joins an increasingly impressive New Orleans forward pack that already boasts USA Selects hooker Cam Falcon and Canadian front rowers Hubert Buydens and Eric Howard.
