Hindú Win URBA Top 12 Title

Hindú are the 2017 URBA Top 12 Champions. The Don Torcuato club defeated Buenos Aires rivals, Alumni, winning the final 27-20 this afternoon.

The result sees the Elephants underlined themselves as Argentina’s strongest club. Earlier in the year Hindú won the national club competition, the Nacional de Clubes. That was the club’s third consecutive national title.

In Buenos Aires today’s victory sees the club recovering from missing out on 2016 to reclaim the provincial honors. Combining both the URBA and Nacional de Clubs competitions Hindú has won five of the past six finals.

Hindú started strongly against Alumni today. They had the better o play in the opening half, going into the interval with a 20-7 advantage. Super Rugby player, Joaquin Díaz Bonilla landed two early penalties  for Hindú. He also scored a first half try as did Ignacio Martínez Sosa. Díaz Bonilla converted both.

Alumni got onto the board with half time approaching. Scoring was Argentina XV hooker Gaspar Baldunicel. His try was converted by Lucas Frana.

In the second half Alumni mounted a comeback. Hindú’s opening half was, nonetheless, sufficient for the  Elephants to come out on top. Frana kicked 46th and 65th minute penalties and would convert Luca Sábato’s try four minute from full time. In between hand Bautista Álvarez scored with Díaz Bonilla converting.
