Brazil Qualify for San Francisco 2018

Brazil have qualified for San Francisco 2018. The national Women’s Rugby 7’s side went undefeated in the 2017 Women’s Sudamérica Rugby 7’s in Montevideo on Friday and Saturday.

Played at the historic Carrasco Polo Club, Brazil underlined its hegemony in the women’s game in the region. The Yaras have been champion in all but one year since it began in 2004. The exception was in 2015 when they did not compete due to it being an Olympic Qualifying tournament and Brazil having pre-qualified as the host nation.

Brazil followed-up their Day One performances at the Valentin Martínez to go unbeaten in the tournament. They did so by starting with a 38-0 win over hosts Uruguay. From there the Yaras toppled Paraguay 36-05 and then Argentina 22-12 in the Final.

In losing the final match, Argentina finished as the runners-up. Peru had a strong campaign to finish in third spot. They did so ahead of both Uruguay and Chile.

The 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens is to be the first hosted by the USA. It will take-place from July 20-22, 2018. The feature venue is to be AT&T Park, the home of the San Francisco Giants baseball team.
