Canada add Strange to coaching staff

Kingsley Jones will not be the only Welshman on Canada’s coaching staff this November. The new Head Coach will be assisted by Jason Strange who arrives on loan from the Welsh Rugby Union to help with the four-match series against the New Zealand Māori, Georgia, Spain, and Fiji.

A goal-kicking flyhalf with Ebbw Vale, Newport, and Bristol among others during his playing career, the 44-year-old spent five seasons at the helm of Ebbw Vale as Head Coach before joining the WRU as an assistant with the national u20 program in 2015. Strange was appointed Head Coach of the program in 2016 and has led the team to two consecutive World Rugby u20 Championship tournaments.

Strange joins on the recommendation of former Rugby Canada High Performance Manager and Senior Men’s Sevens coach Geraint John, who is currently employed by the WRU as Head of Rugby Performance. Canada will start their November campaign against the Māori in Vancouver on November 3 before departing for the three-test tour of Europe.
