Double Blow Sees Hernández and Herrera Out for Pumas

A double blow for Los Pumas sees Juan Martín Hernández and Ramiro Herrera out. Both senior players will miss Saturday’s Rugby Championship match against World Champions, New Zealand in New Plymouth.

Juan Martín Hernández and Ramiro Herrera started against South Africa in Salta two weeks ago. The round two Rugby Championship feature saw the Springboks complete their biggest win over Los Pumas in Argentina since the Rugby Championship began.

Both Hernández and Herrera traveled to New Zealand with the roster and were training to play. Without them Head Coach Daniel Hourcade is to start Nicolás Sánchez and Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro. They will be covered from the bench by Santiago González Iglesias and Enrique Pieretto respectively.

In the case of Herrera the injury means a third player is to start at Tight Head prop for Los Pumas in as many matches. Herrera started the home match in Salta against South Africa. In round one he was a replacement for Pieretto.

The UAR confirmed that Hernández’ absence is due to an abdominal injury. Herrera is out with an injury to his lower back. Both players are to be evaluated with an eye to a return to face Australia in Canberra on September 16.
