Argentina, Uruguay Win u20’s Matches in South America

Argentina and Uruguay won their respective u20’s matches this weekend in South America. Played at Old Christians Club in Montevideo, Argentina faced Chile in match one while Uruguay took-on Brazil in match two.

Argentina used the match against Chile’s u20’s by fielding an u19 side. It was a strategic move in an effort to prepare for the 2018 World Rugby Junior World Championship. The tournament will be played in Argentina and Los Pumitas are looking to perform notably better than that of the 2017 tournament in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Los Pumitas were pushed by the Chileans early on. Chile’s lead early in the match was eventually overturned with Argentina going on to win 29-8. Despite the loss Chile came out of the match with the boxes ticked. Chile will play in the World Rugby Junior World Trophy next month.

The Junior World Trophy will also be played in Montevideo. The Uruguayan capital will welcome seven teams in addition to Los Teritos. Canada, Chile, Fiji, Hong Kong, Japan, Namibia and Portugal are to be the remaining competitors.

Uruguay’s match against Brazil on Saturday was treated as a warm-up for the tournament. An impressive opening half from Uruguay had them leading 22-0. This was on the back of scoring four tries. Brazil opened the second half scoring with a try. It would be their only score of the match. Additional scores from the home side resulted in a convincing 43-7 victory.

The four teams are to return to the field on Tuesday August 01. Chile will face Brazil in the Bronze Final  at 2pm. Uruguay will then have home advantage against Argentina at 3:30pm in the final.
