England make changes for Argentina tour

Eddie Jones has been forced to make changes to his England roster to tour Argentina after injuries further deprived him of four players that were named in the original squad last month. Dropping out of the group are Northampton prop Paul Hill, Exeter hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie, Ospreys flanker Sam Underhill, and Harlequins centre Joe Marchant. Also left out is Northampton flanker Tom Wood, who has been cited for a stamp that earned him a red card against Stade Français on Friday, while James Haskell has been called up to the British & Irish Lions squad as a replacement for Billy Vunipola.

Joining the team are two capped players and three newcomers. Wasps hooker Tommy Taylor and Exeter midfielder Ollie Devoto earn recalls after both participating in the Aviva Premiership Final on Saturday. Newcastle Falcons stalwart Mark Wilson is rewarded for his club form and replaces Haskell in the back row, and a pair of South Africans have earned selection after qualifying from via residency. Former Baby Bok u20 prop Nick Schonert replaces Hill as tighthead specialist, while versatile Exeter loose forward Donovan Armand is summoned to take Underhill’s spot. Jones has opted not replace Wood.

Three players have been named in the group despite remaining under injury clouds. Alex Lozowski, Joe Cokanasiga, and Denny Solomona are managing knocks but have been passed fit to travel.
