Guyana Travel to Barbados

The national men’s Guyana rugby team, the Green Machine are on their way to Barbados. Guyana will take on Barbados on Saturday in a South Zone Rugby Americas North test match.

Green Machine Head coach Kenneth Grant-Stuart is optimistic of a positive result. “We all know Barbados are a team with size, so that’s their strength. Everyone knows Guyana rely heavily on speed and agility; so we’re working on some strategy for when they try to contain that,” Grant-Stuart told Chronicle Sport.

The most recent test match between the countries saw the Guyanese hammering Barbados 39-5. That fixture was part of the Rugby World Cup 2019 qualifiers.

The Green Machine are captained by Ryan Gonsalves. After playing away to Barbados Gonsalves and his team will face Trinidad & Tobago at the National Park Rugby Field on June 10 in a rematch of last year’s South Zone final. Guyana won the 2016 fixture 23-18.

The Green Machine are the current runners-up to Mexico in the Regional Rugby Americas North Championships.
