Brazil Name Roster for RWC Qualifiers

Brazil has named a 34-man roster for upcoming Rugby World Cup Qualifiers. Os Tupis are to take-on Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay with the winner facing either Canada or the USA in the final round of Americas qualification. Head Coach Rodolfo Ambrósio has selected his roster for a three-day training camp. An additional two camps are to take place before the first match, against Chile, on May 13. The initial camp is underway. It runs from April 24-27.

Brazil is aiming high. Having beaten Canada and Chile in this year’s Americas Rugby Championship os Tupis are now seeking a Rugby World Cup debut. The nucleus of the roster is based on that from the Americas Rugby Championship.

There are two uncapped players included. Jacareí hooker Luan Almeida has been named in match day squads on four occasions but has yet to make his debut. Curitiba scrumhalf Douglas Rauth is the other. Recalled to the group are props Lucas Abud and Jardel Vettorato, second row Matheus Wolf, and utility back Laurent Bourda-Couhet. Vettorato, a lawyer by trade, returns to contention having previously announced his retirement from international rugby during the 2016 ARC.
