St. Lucia Down St. Vincent and the Grenadines

International rugby in the Caribbean got underway for the year in February. The opening fixture saw St. Lucia playing host to St. Vincent and the Grenadines on February 18.

The friendly international saw the team from St. Vincent and the Grenadines sailing to St. Lucia. Unfortunately the visiting side was unable to field a full complement of a 15-man side. Work commitments meant that St. Lucia contributed players to make up the numbers.

Vincentian players Leonard Matthews, Zhane Cerdine and Giles Garraway scored early tries. Two conversions from George Kruger also aided the visitors. The winner though was St. Lucia. The home side completed a 48-19 victory.

Both countries are expected to compete in the 2017 Rugby Americas North Championship. Dates are yet to be confirmed for the tournament but it is expected to again be played in June. In 2016 Mexico ran out as winners.
