Jaguares Open Season with Away Win over Kings

Los Jaguares opened their Super Rugby season with an away win over the Kings. The 39-26 win was not enough to collect a bonus point but it ultimately saw the Argentine team completing the task at hand.

Penalties opened the scoring. In the early minutes debutante Joaquín Díaz Bonilla kicked one while his opposite, Lionel Cronjé, landed three. Los Jaguares then scored the opening try of the game. The 15th minute score demonstrated flair and intent. Díaz Bonilla opened the move which saw Gonzalo Bertranou scoring at the other end of the field.

Three Díaz Bonilla penalties gave Los Jaguares a 19-12 lead. The debutant, though, was forced off after colliding heads with Pablo Matera. Santiago González Iglesias entered to take-over at fly half.

The seven point half time lead would quickly be extended. Smart play saw impressive tries from both Leonardo Senatore and Joaquín Tuculet. With them, the Argentine side held a 20 point lead. They also had a bonus point sealed at the time. Responses, though, from the Kings cancelled it out.

With ball in hand late in the piece the Kings attacked well, scoring their first try though winger Makazole Mapimpi. Los Jaguares’ work was complicated through the yellow carding of Felipe Ezcurra and Matías Moroni.

The numerical advantage would be taken advantage of. With time up Luzuko Vulindlu crossed to give the Kings a second try.

The Argentine side completed a satisfactory win but still have plenty to do. Next up is a tough assignment, playing away to the Stormers in Cape Town next weekend. Changes are expected with Javier Desio Ortega, Nicólas Sánchez, and Juan Martín Hernández all expected to be fit.
