Guatemala Crowned Back-to-Back South American C Champions

Guatemala Crowned Back-to-Back South American C Champions. Los Jaguares won the title this afternoon, defeating Costa Rica 24-16 in the Grand Final in Guatemala City.

The tournament title sees Guatemala qualifying for South American B repechage. Los Jaguares will face Ecuador with the winner joining Colombia, Peru and Venezuela in 2017.

Guatemala’s path to the title saw two big wins before today’s final. Neither Panama nor El Salvador was able to seriously challenge the Guatemalans. Both sides also fell to heavy defeats against Costa Rica.

Panama’s win over El Salvador saw the Red Devils finishing third and Los Torogoces fourth. Guatemala’s win completed the standings. Back-to-back titles confirm Guatemala as the top side in Central America with Costa Rica next in line.

Los Guairas forced Guatemala into a come-from-behind victory. Costa Rica had a 16-10 lead late in the match. But with two tries in the final minutes Guatemala was crowned champion.
