North Otago set to arrive in Canada

New Zealand provincial side North Otago are packing their bags in preparation for a three-match tour to Canada. The team will depart Oamaru on July 30 and spend two weeks in country, pitching up against Canada u19 on August 3 in Victoria followed by two Canadian Rugby Championship sides – the Prairie Wolf Pack in Calgary on August 7 and then returning to British Columbia to face the Bears in Vancouver on August 10.

North Otago compete in the Heartland Championship, the second-tier national competition comprised of the country’s smaller provincial unions. The ‘Old Golds’ have been crowned champions twice since the tournament’s inception in 2006 but have been stuck in the middle of the table for the past two seasons.

Two Canadians have featured for the team in recent times. New Glasgow Warriors signing Djustice Sears-Duru spent some time in the province along with current 7s international Mike Mullins. Argentinean outside back Diego Biro was also part of the group that toured Fiji and Tonga in July of 2014.
