Jamaica Hammer St. Vincent and the Grenadines in RWC 2019 Qualifier

Jamaica hammered St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the inaugural Rugby World Cup 2019 qualifier this afternoon. The 48-0 win at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex in St. Vincent and the Grenadines was played in front of a record crowd of 1,000 for a rugby match in the Caribbean island nation.

For Jamaica the result is that the dream of playing in a Rugby World Cup for the first time remains alive. The hosts are not so lucky with this one match being their only one.

Further encouraging news for Jamaica is that the result will lift the western Caribbean island nation six places in the World Rankings. St. Vincent and the Grenadines will fall three to be 85th in the world when the updates rankings are announced by World Rugby on Monday.

When the final Rugby World Cup 2019 qualification fixture has come and gone there will have been over 90 different countries competing for the right to play in Japan 2019. The total number of qualifying fixtures is roughly 200. Brazil, Mexico and the USA are three of the six key markets signaled out by World Rugby competing in the qualifiers.
