Las Tucanes, Ready for Suramericano in Rio de Janeiro

Colombia’s national women’s team, Las Tucanes, are ready for the Suramericano in Rio de Janeiro. The Olympic Bound Rugby Sevens team will compete at the tournament in Brazil to prepare themselves for a return to the same city later this year when they have the chance at competing for Gold.

In March 5-6 the Aquece Rio International Women’s Rugby Sevens tournament will see eight South American countries competing at the Estadio Deodoro, the same venue that will host the Olympic Games Rugby Sevens tournament. Competing in the March tournament will be Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Las Tucanes are to play in Group B against Argentina, Chile and Paraguay. The Colombians will enter as favorites after having won the 2015 Olympic Games Qualification series in Santa Fé, Argentina.

The twelve athletes who will compete are now in training in Colombia ahead of the tournament.
