Paraguay 2016-2020 Strategic Plan

Seeking to continue growing the Unión de Rugby del Paraguay (Paraguayan Rugby Union – URP) have released a Strategic Plan from 2016-2020. Together with guest Francisco Rubio, the Sudamérica Rugby deevlopment Director the URP administrative committee put together the ambitious project.

Working with Sudamérica Rugby and World Rugby
The URP seeks to growth rugby in the country and to improve the level of the national side. Rubio expressed to the URP team the importance of following the guidelines of Sudamérica Rugby and World Rugby which together seek to aid the growth of the sport in the country and to develop the union and structures.

Rubio noted that there is a significant difference having professionalism and it has converted rugby into a big business. To be a part of this Rubio contends that unions should be generating economic resources and the rise the level of the game through both medium and long-term projects.

The contemporary state of rugby is very much a business, without departing from the codes and values of the sport. With resources and without values, respect, honesty, solidarity, responsability and humility Rubio contends that rugby does not exist. Every professional structure and new methodology of growth and improved organization must stand true to the principles and values of rugby.

As such Rubio recommended that the URU contracts professionals to purely and exclusively generate economic resources through a marketing department which can take charge and, on this basis, promote the game at a high level.

He noted that Paraguay must have a High Performance Center which will enable the players and club sides to be exposed to the tools train and to prepare in the best way possible for international duty. In addition Rubio pointed out that need to train coaches and encourage the development of rugby at junior levels through World Rugby’s Get Into Rugby program. In addition Rubio stressed the importance of developing women’s rugby, which is a central component of growing the game globally.

URP Avaliability
URP Vicepresident, Andrés Titito Alvarez, emphasized that the URP is seeking to work hard to correct the regression of the past 20 years and that the union will double its efforts to reduce the gap. Rubio requested the cooperation of the URP to correct the course and regain lost ground.
