Costa Rica and Peru dominate Sudamérica C Sevens Day 1

The women’s teams from Costa Rica and Peru were very impressive on Day 1 of the Sudamérica Sevens in San Salvador. Both countries went undefeated while putting big scores on their opponents.

Costa Rica’s women defeated El Salvador 22-5, Nicarágua 46-0 and Panama 34-7 while the Southern most competitors, Peru, defeated Panama 36-0, Nicarágua 53-0 and Guatemala 31-5. The two counties will meet today in the final match of the group phase.

Remaining matches will see Panama vs Nicarágua, Guatemala vs Costa Rica, Peru vs El Salvador, Guatemala vs Panama and El Salvador vs Nicarágua. With the prize of a test match in Rio 2016 on the line Costa Rica and Peru appear destined to square off in the Cup Final.

Also competing will be the senior men’s teams who will complete the 2015 South American C Championship. Costa Rica will face Panama while El Salvador will take-on the surprise package of this year’s tournament, Guatemala.

* Rugby is played throughout Central America with only Honduras and Belize not involved in the women’s Rugby Sevens event. Belize is seeking to join NACRA due to it being an English rather than Spanish speaking country. Honduras seeks involvement in the South American C Championship.
