Colombia Win South American B Championship

Los Tucanes are the 2015 South American B Rugby Champions. The Colombian men’s national team went undefeated throughout the Four Nations tournament to complete a third consecutive tournament victory and set up a repechage play-off against Brazil, the bottom placed side from the 2015 South American A Championship.

With Colombia having completed a 56-6 romp over Peru in 2014 today’s match was entirely different as the host nation had a far more competitive team with Peru leading for portions of the match in Lima. Colombia ultimately had enough to fight back and complete a 28-15 win.

Also in action today were Venezuela and Ecuador who played in the Bronze Final. In 2014 it had been Colombia taking-on Venezuela in the Final with Peru facing Ecuador and winning 24-17. The 2015 Peruvian side has proven to be improved as shown in Sunday’s win over Venezuela while  Venezuela had to settle for third this year by defeating Ecuador 42-11.

Attention will now turn to the third tier of the South American Championship which is to be played in San Salvador next month. The host nation of El Salvador will be joined by Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama to compete in a Four Nations tournament from December 06-12.
